Meet Our Pain Specialist Doctors Dr. Shafi Khalid is board-certified in pain medicine and a fellow of interventional pain practice. He completed his undergraduate studies at Dhaka College in Bangladesh; achieved his medical degree at Mymensingh Medical College in Bangladesh; and earned his diploma in clinical neurology at the Institute of Neurology, University of London, in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Khalid completed his internship and residencies in internal medicine at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in New York, followed by a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, also in New York.

Dr. Khalid has devoted the last 12 years of his medical practice to the field of pain medicine, including his work as a solo pain practitioner in Texas, and former assistant professor in the anesthesiology department at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. He opened his current practice in Poway in June of 2006.

Brittany Grovey, M.D. and Gemayel Lee, M.D.

Meet Our Doctors and Pain Consultants Dr. Brittany Grovey is a fellowship-trained interventional pain provider. As a former All-Ivy, two-time Division I All-American, and professional track & field athlete competing in the 2008 Olympic Trials, Dr. Grovey aims to optimize her patients’ physical and mental well-being to help them reach their maximum potential.

Dr. Grovey graduated with a degree in Biology from Brown University, and received her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She went on to complete an internal medicine internship at Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, CA, and an anesthesiology residency at the UC San Diego. Within the sub-specialties of anesthesiology, Dr. Grovey was drawn to the field of chronic pain medicine and completed pain medicine fellowship at the UC San Diego. Her particular areas of interest include sports related injuries, regenerative medicine, headaches, and women’s health related pain, including pelvic and post-mastectomy pain.

Outside of the office, Dr. Grovey enjoys spending time outdoors in sunny San Diego with her husband and new puppies.

Meet Our Pain Doctors at SD Pain Dr. Gemayel Lee, MD, is an anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained specialist in Pain Medicine. He manages all forms of pain and aims to build lasting and quality relationships with his patients by incorporating a comprehensive, multi-modal and patient-centered approach with his practice.

Dr. Lee received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a intership at Alameda Country Medical Center in Oakland. CA. He completed anesthesiology residency at the University of California, San Diego, and fellowship training in Pain medicine at the UC San Diego. While training under the internationally renowned faculty at UCSD, Dr. Lee developed particular interest and expertise in international techniques, implantable therapies, neuromodulation, regenerative medicine, and medication management.

Dr. Lee is a native South California, and enjoys watching local sports and spending time with his wife and family.
